A basic but powerful truth!
Martin Luther found the following verse in the Bible to be powerful and truly liberating!
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works,
lest anyone should boast.
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus
for good works, which God prepared beforehand
that we should walk in them."
The monk Luther was in line with the Catholic doctrines, always trying to perform for his salvation.
But when he found the powerful truth in the Word of God about being saved by grace only and through our faith only in the grace of God, Martin Luther changed his focus - never to perform again, begging God for salvation and doing works to achieve His perfect grace.
What about us!
Look, if our performances and good works should please God, it is only after we are saved by His achieved grace through the powerful event of the cross 2000 years ago, which we choose to believe by faith, to trust in God for what He done through His Son Jesus Christ
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world,
but that the world through Him might be saved.
He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already,
because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
...that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead,
you will be saved.
For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”
For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.
For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Performance and good works are only the result/fruit of being saved by grace and not the other way around like certain religious communities are teaching.
God proved it to us more than once in the Old Covenant that our effort of bearing much fruit to please Him and to earn His mercy/grace will never, never be enough.
We will always fall short of being saved, if we do not believe that grace abounds since 2000 years but to active the grace of God we must believe in the fruits of the cross and when we are saved we will slowly start to bear some fruits, good works for the Lord on the earth.
The result of the cross causes
us to produce good fruits
which are the works we do
performing for God on this
earth as his ambassadors!
But is there a test to pass, a performance we must do to please God?
Yes, it is the test of love and obedience unto God for the purpose of bearing fruits as believers in Christ in our life and in the life of others through the Great Commission of Christ (Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16-15-20, James 2) !
This is the performance we must do
to please God by faith!
